18 Sep Leftover Luxuries
On Wednesday 14th August, one of our volunteers Doretta Hogan held a ‘Leftover Luxuries’ jumble sale at her home in St Albans.
The event was bustling with friends, neighbours and family to help raise vital funds for Open Door and to find leftover luxuries.
It was a hot summers evening and the leftover luxuries sale was an outstanding success. New and preloved clothes were donated and sold.
Doretta said, “I’m having a Fashion Jumble sale! Emptied out my daughter’s wardrobes (yes, she does know!) after years of hoarding, and also my own, I’m going to sell them. The idea is to use the takings to buy what we need for Open Door, be it toiletries, or food. There are some unworn items still with labels as well as ‘pre-loved”.
The event was orchestrated to fulfil two purposes; the first was to engage the local community which was accomplished due to donations from friends and neighbours. The second objective was to raise awareness and donations for homelessness. Proceeds will go to Open Door St Albans Charity, a local homeless charity in St Albans where Doretta volunteers.
We are delighted to announce that the ‘Leftover Luxury’ jumble sale raised £410. The proceeds will enable Open Door to provide hot food, clean clothes, workshops and much-needed support.
Sarah Chambers, Community Fundraiser at Open Door said, “We are so grateful to Doretta for hosting a fantastic event to raise a brilliant amount of money for Open Door. The money raised will go towards helping those less fortunate in our community. Thank you to everyone who attended – I hope you picked up a hidden treasure while supporting the work we do.”
