12 Jul Open Door links up with Notcutts to boost donations
Open Door has got together with Notcutts, the St Albans garden centre, to find new ways to support homeless people in the district.
When customers are about to pay they are invited to make a small donation to the charity by rounding up their bill to the nearest pound. These donations have already raised several thousand pounds to help Open Door’s work.
In July the centre’s General Manager Chris Holt met up with Kerry Pollard (Open Door’s Chairman), and St Albans Mayor Janet Smith, who both thanked Notcutts for introducing the scheme.
Notcutts manager Steve France has made a personal contribution to Open Door’s funds. In February 2018 he took part in a sponsored sleep out in the car park of The Swan pub in Wheathampstead – which raised £5,000.
Steve said “For several years I’d wanted to do something to help the homeless and rough sleepers. When I Googled ‘homeless St Albans’ up came ‘Open Door’, so I got in touch.”
As well as raising money for Open Door Steve has also volunteered to work in our kitchen to help prepare evening meals for people staying at the night shelter.
Please get in touch if you are interested in volunteering or fundraising for Open Door.
